History
Dr. Gladys
McGarey's life long interest in living medicine served as a
catalyst for the creation of the Foundation that bears her
name. She and six other women came together in 1989 and formed
the Foundation as a means to bridge the gap between holistic and
conventional medicine.
They
worked during the first two years to refine their mission and
solidify its infrastructure while they awaited their IRS
designation as a non-profit. The IRS awarded them nonprofit
stratus in 1991. They used their platform to education and
teach the concept of living medicine. They published articles
and gave national and international presentations on the topic
to heighten interest and awareness. They worked to create
important partnerships to further the evolving consciousness
about living medicine.
A.R.E. became
a significant partner and continues to be today. The Foundation
also developed and implemented conferences and workshops. The
Foundation sponsored an annual "Life Time Achievement Award"
recognizing the significant achievements of others in the
field. Dr. Elisabeth Kubler Ross, Dr. Christinanne Northrup,
and Dr. Larry Dossey are just a few who received this
distinguished award.
The dream that
was envisioned nearly twenty years ago is alive, dynamic and
evolving. From the initial structure that was put in place by
those pioneering women, The Foundation continues to further the
work of living medicine. Books are published, articles written,
workshops facilitated, programs implement- ed. The Foundation's
work embodies living medicine.
